Lemon Lime has a subtle lemon flavour and is known for its calming, digestive and sleep-promoting properties. Drinking a cup of lemon verbena tea after a large meal stimulates digestion. The tea can be consumed at any time of the day.
Lemon verbena or lemon verbena is a perennial shrub belonging to theVerbenaceae family and is native to Peru, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia and Brazil. In the 18th century, this deciduous plant was introduced from South America to Spain by European colonisers. Sidrunaloisia is a deciduous woody plant that grows to a height of 1 to 3 metres. It has narrow, lemon-scented, elongated, yellow-green leaves. The flowers are small, white or pale blue, arranged in tight whorls. The lemon balm prefers full sun in cooler climates or light shade. The best soil is a well-drained, nutrient-rich loamy soil. The plant is sensitive to frost and loses its leaves when temperatures drop below 0 °C. If the plant does not get enough sun, it becomes thin and tall and loses much of its essential oil. It was originally grown for the production of essential oil, which was used in perfumes until lemon balm and lemongrass replaced it. In northern regions, lemon balm is often grown as an ornamental plant. Its leaves are used to flavour teas and alcoholic beverages, as well as in fruit salads, desserts and jams. In addition, the leaves and flowers of the plant are used in folk medicine due to its antipyretic, antispasmodic, digestive and sedative properties.
Lemon balm is prized both in the culinary world and among herb lovers. It has a number of health-promoting properties:
