Curry powder – what is it?

Curry is a spice blend based on the Indian spice “garam masala” that has gained popularity all over the world. Curry was first used in the 18th century when Indian traders invented an all-in-one seasoning for British consumers, allowing the English to conveniently prepare Indian dishes. There are many different types of curry, but almost all of them contain turmeric, coriander, cumin and allspice as basic ingredients, with other herbs and spices added. The combination of flavours in curry powder stimulates different areas of the tongue and makes it addictive in a good way. Curries can become badly addictive if unhealthy ingredients such as flavour enhancers (MSG) or harmful oils like rapeseed oil are added, but pure spices are a pleasure for the body and the mind.
